I’ve made it no secret that I’m not a huge fan on GM products. You could probably guess it from my user name. But I have to admit no silly reason I hate GM.

This radio.

The reason I hate it? It’s the same one that is in Chevy’s work vans. When I see it I think “work van radio”. Now I could say that using the same radio in every car is unusual now, but not that long ago it was standard issue.

I could say I don’t like the green color of the display, and the knobs feel chinsey, but really it’s just that i can’t get over the conection to a work van in my mind. He fact is it’s not that bad. I will say it IS too cheap for some of the higher up GM models you’ll find it in.

Huh. That’s the radio I have in my Malibu. Never have had any issues or complaints.

Looks like the Solstice got it too. Not a bad looking wheel really, I bet the non leather wrapped version feels awful. But all plastic wheels feel cheap. That's one reason I'm glad we got a Fit Sport. That leather wrapped wheel makes the car feel some much less cheap.

Maybe, some Mustangs are worth hating. But some are great. I used to hate Mustangs back in my “Hondas are the best! V8s are over rated, 4 cylinders4life, Need for Speed, Brain and Dom are my heroes!” Days.

Its nothing to do with brand bias or even the fact that mustangs are crowd killing machines. I’ve just never felt partial to them. I accept that they are fine cars, and they are aesthetically pleasing, but I’ll take a Camaro any day of the week .

I don’t always buy or drive GM vehicles..

But when I do, I’m happy that the radio actually WORKS..

I have an Uplander as a utility vehicle. I believe the best thing about GM vehicles is that nobody wants them used, you can get a GM that will do the job for next to nothing, just have to keep an OBD2 reader, a loaded toolbox, charged cellphone and some really decent shoes at all times.

Solstice had potential but never hit the right target. Too many badly designed features. My favorite thing to hate on is the cupholder behind your elbow that you hit when shifting. Who the hell thought that was a good design?

That doesn’t sound good at all. I always liked the exterior of the Sky more anyway, though I think the design of the Solstice’s interior is more aesthetically pleasing. Wait a second.... Would you looks at that radio? Looks like the same silver version that the cobalt SS got.

Its for sure. Go on CL and compare used prices of a Civic compared to a Cruze, or even a Malibu. I'd bet across the board the GMs would be 2/3s cheaper at least.

We see a lot with that basic style come through the dealership. They mostly look the same but aren’t all compatible for swaps due to with or without OnStar , upgraded stereo with amp, etc. Its more than just faceplate and diplay color that varies. We get customers into service about twice a year that have bought used ones that won’t work in their vehicle and expect a service department miracle.

Yes that whole “it looks the same but isn’t” problem. I’d have that problem a lot as a salesmen. Customers would say “ well dealership X has the same 300c for 1000 dollars less, and then I'd have to show them that that one, was a new one with 2000. Miles on it because some one at the dealership needed a car for two months, or it had a V6 and ours had a V8, or ours had a Sun and Sound package that the other didn't. Too many people just don't look into the details for what they are spending their money on.
